dsouza’s questions

27/7/2016 _ What is happening in Hamara Shehar Mumbai is instead of demanding actual & accurate GIS Mapping for DP-2034, which will check unrestricted prolifecation of slums - including in Gaothans & Koliwadas; concern is more about DCR Rules - seeking rights, amenities and more on encroached public/private areas. First you Squat in open spaces, amenity plots, NDZs & anywhere you feel like and claim that Housing is our constitutional right, then further Demand all amenties. What democracy is this? If so, then let government provide houses to all 18 years and above - both for girls & boys.

27/7/2016 _ MCGM Disaster Management, App is on GIS then why not DP -2034?

28/7/2016 _ Can 100% accurate DP-2034 be achieved?
Even if citizens are asked to prepare DP wardwise, am sure we’ll not arrive at a consensus whether NDZ and other Reserved plots should or not be allowed for any development.

SHUBHA SHARMA

Mumbai’s development blueprint up to 2034 is open to the public for suggestions and opinion. But in practice, how easy is it for Mumbaikars to participate? And how many of us make the effort?

Late last month, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM)...

buildings as ideas, nariman point 1974

WP_20160412_14_25_32_Pro.jpg

WP_20160412_14_25_19_Pro.jpg

One of the biggest scams in the early 1970’s in Bombay was the sale of land at Nariman Point, at the southern end of the city by the Government of Maharastra. Though most of the plots were not on land at all but still underwater, yet sales were brisk and triggered off a great deal of bribery and courruption.

To fight this, a group of citizens came together and formed one of the first NGO’s in the city, called the Bombay Bachao (Save Bombay), and asked Charles Correa to prepare a plan that would bring a halt to further reclamation.

Accordingly a new plan that attempted to rationalise and make sence of the messy and incomplete earthwork by creating a shallow water body for recreation, promenades, restaurants, etc., with the actual sea wall clearly delineated so that the waterfront would be constant, and any further reclamation would be easy to identify - and stop. The resulting plan...

dear friends

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) released its revised draft development plan, titled the “Report on the Draft Development Plan 2034 (RDDP)“ on 27th May 2016. The last date for submitting your comments is July 29, 2016.

The Mumbai DP 2034 will be the legal blueprint for guiding the citys development for the next two decades at least. The 1991 DP was only notified in 1994, its draft was published in 1981 for public suggestions and objections and has governed the city for the last 35 years. Generations have been affected by the provisions of the DP and the document continues to affect more than 12 million citizens across Mumbai.

The UDRI had requested for an extension on the deadline for submitting citizens’ feedback on the RDDP, however the same has been denied. Hence it is of utmost importance that we file in our suggestions and objections by Friday, July 29, 2016.

Shweta Wagh _ BMC admits it erred, says devpt plan, land records do not match, Tanushree Venkatraman, Hindustan Times, Mumbai | Updated: Jul 23, 2016

With just a week to go for citizens to submit their suggestions and objections to the city’s draft development plan (DP), an internal circular issued by the civic body points out errors in the plan that could create confusion while registering or redeveloping a plot of land.

The circular, a copy of which is with HT, was issued on July 20. It shows that plot numbers, or city survey (CTS) numbers, in the DP do not match the city’s revenue records.

How does this impact...

17/7/2016 Nitin Kubal _ CHALO AZAD MAIDAN!
PUBLIC MEETING - EXCLUSION IN THE MUMBAI DP 2016

Since the Revised Draft Development Plan (RDDP) was released on 27th May, Hamara Shehar Mumbai Abhiyaan has been running citizen’s facilitation centers on the DP, organized over 60 community meetings and 7 thematic consultations across the city with the aim to increase citizen understanding on the issue. These have brought out numerous cases of exclusion within the Revised Draft Development Plan and raises very serious concerns about the type of development that will unfold in Mumbai if many of the current DP provisions are sanctioned.

As decided at the city level strategy meeting on 11 July 2016 we will be organizing a Public Meeting at Azad Maidan on 20th July 2016.

The public meeting will begin at 2 pm. There will be a mass submission of suggestions and objection letters by people from...

Interesting news on the tussle to nominate members to the DP suggestion&objection review panel _ SENA WANTS CONG, NOT BJP, ON PANEL | By Chaitanya Marpakwar, Mumbai Mirror | Jun 27, 2016

Another tiff seems to be brewing between the ever-warring ruling alliance partners, Shiv Sena and BJP, over nomination to the all-important committee that will review the suggestions and objections regarding city’s new Development Plan (DP).

While the Sena is set to nominate two corporators standing committee chairman Yashodhar Phanse and its leader in the BMC Trushna Vishwasrao, there is hectic lobbying for the third and last spot on the DP committee. Both the BJP and the Congress are vying for it.

While the BJP with 31 corporators is a partner in the ruling alliance with the Sena, the Congress with 51 corporators is the principal opposition party in the BMC.

The BJP is keen to nominate its...
