Project 1: Narrative Strategies for Objects, instructed by Rob Walker
Rob Walker will lecture on how to develop narratives around objects. Students will engage in close observation, archive research, and other means of data gathering, and then experiment with strategies to illuminate an object’s significance through storytelling. Typical assignments: Bring in an object that has some kind of personal significance to you, and is transportable. Write a 300–500 word story about the object. Next find an object that you consider to be overlooked or undervalued and write a 500-word story about it, based on research, which brings it to life.

probable todo’s for a phd application

a) gather all institutional program documentation from wherever possible to frame requirements of commitments.
b) do not read self-help books or guides as they are indicative of application systems from other curricula and practices.
c) after tidying up the cv, identify common strands in your work that can act as interests you further research on.
d) find out who your tentative guide is and identify what are their academic accomplishments or aspirations are.
e) read up work they have produced and how your area of interest can work as an extension of their work.
f) when drafting a proposal you shouldn’t have a project as in it’s not a research for design, it’s either research on design or through.
g) understand the research process, how much resources you will need to complete your work and in how much time.

things to do for an exhibition

a.k.a pica design survey, a good idea with interesting outcomes

the following is a summary of discussions with Jinu and Archis. it’s to be considered as the first draft of notes towards a possible idea.

fundamental similarity to the act of curating, which at its most basic is simply about connecting cultures, bringing their elements into proximity with each other - the task of curating is to make junctions, to allow different elements to touch. Hans Ulrich Obrist, Ways of Curating

IMG-20150627-WA0015.jpg

there isn’t any brief at the moment or to simplify work the brief is not presented here. the broad goal of an initiative at hand is to investigate possibilities of surveying a design community. key questions the task begins with is why conduct this survey?
second, if conducted what is the use of this survey? and
third who else other than the community producing it will find it useful?
the task...

By 2050, India’s cities will be home to 850 million people or 40 per cent of its population. But how will they be housed and what role will architects play in planning emerging urban landscapes? In Mumbai, an exhibition titled the State of Architecture, Practices and Processes in India explores these issues while tracing the history of the profession since 1947.

this video is archived as part of a project assembling various documents produced during and as a reaction to the Exhibition titled THE STATE OF ARCHITECTURE, PRACTICES & PROCESSES IN INDIA | 6 JANUARY - 20 MARCH, 2016, NATIONAL GALLERY OF MODERN ART, MUMBAI
