Tests a virtual repository for #Mumbai. It’s hosted on two platforms the primary as a blog on tumblr and extended resource content via google sites.

Mumbai is moving towards a new phase in city planning. Touted as impacting an entire generation, a plan is going through its motions. The plan dawns the age of data publishing both by MCGM and the ever-active group of citizens initiatives. Never before there is a pursuit to disseminate urban data, information in the form of city/ community resource applications and propaganda sites. Recognizing such events mumbaiopendata.org aims to act as a repository for these pursuits.

At this phase, the project is a compilation of found working projects on Mumbai while monitoring the evolving landscape of city knowledge production by its various stakeholders. Site positions itself as a secondary information resource. In bringing the myriad sources together, this exercise, addresses the supposed scarcity of city data, a result of its polarized creation and distribution strategies.

What it aspires is to locate conventional data gathering pursuits while simultaneously recognizing the culture instrumental in its support. In identifying this space, stand the opportunity to pinpoint several sources to city content with a direct resultant objective in encouraging other city tasks/ plans/ initiatives to learn, build on work done and being undertaken. Geographic limit to the project is the Mumbai Metropolitan Region wherein this phase concentrates on Greater Mumbai.

Elaborating on the site for the first section on tumblr every 10 posts on a page concentrates on a specific subject of city information. Listed as additional pages which connect onto subject specific plots, the information here is staged as per source and type.

Nine heads are positioned as a template to receive a probable variety of found material. Institutions collect organizations and acts working in the city this is further extended in Projects specific pages. Blogs explore writers while reads list writings. Data, Maps, Regulations and Images deal with material as directly used in the production of work. Miscellaneous plots are addressed in etc’s.

Collaborators are invited in whatever medium as which can be provided under the core mandate of the site which directed toward an assemblage of a virtual city information archive. The project is purposed for urban planning exercises, therefore, its anticipated format is structured and developed to ease the said purpose. With pointing towards both city knowledge sources and making available city data, further research is therefore directly encouraged a result of this task.
