historiography

Methodological approach to the study of development of place or any other definition having imagined/ accepted significance is historiography. The case is towards staging the history for a contemporary piece of land in the center of city which people are aware of but is so overtly omnipresent that it gets overlooked. Facts about and for the place are diluted in the everyday. What can be considered noteworthy is a matter opinion. Should yesterday be history or do we have to wait a bit before its considered worthy to be recorded? A contemporary space, Bandra Kurla Complex is it really worth a discussion?

Even in today’s consideration, it’s identity is of an office block with glass buildings and open areas where the crowd gathers for political rallies and exhibitions. This is one end of the landscape. Entry to this imagination of the neighborhood is presently from an avenue with sound proofed residential complexes on its left and the right stages government establishments and office blocks for rent. A global vision as accessed from between homes and bureaucracy. Entrance in existential terms problematic as the area perceived and the area planned as the complex seem to be staged as two different entities. For the exercise the following is an extrapolated time line of 30 years documenting the several revisions to the delineation of the Special Planning Area. To the period of its establishment in ‘97 to the last major change on the map in '09, here history to be told isn’t what has happened but which has been erased or removed from the being brought in place, factors that has resulted in our understanding of the way this site has been imagined in the present.
