98 proposed smart cities 2015

List, cities selected for the first phase of the SmartCities Mission as published in thehindu dated August 28, 2015. Allotment of cities were done as per state. Out of the 100 proposed Jammu & Kashmir has asked for more time to decide on the potential Smart City and 12 cities have been shortlisted from Uttar Pradesh against 13 cities allocated to the State. All city descriptive texts are edited from Wikipedia entries of listed places. Exercise, via listing aims to look at various geographic challenges each of the cities present. Dataset thus enables an overarching reading of probable city types available in the country. This can roughly be categorised as landlocked habitations, coastal areas, planned settlements, hilly areas, historic cities and riverine populations. Thought these types are observed the list doesn’t group as per these categories at this instance due to its preliminary nature. Content structure concentrates on states as unit divisible. Also names of 37 consultants appointed to prepare plans for these cities and informed via a Press Information Bureau notification is added where available.
